 Plateau Pearl—Bita Sea

The waters of the Bita Sea are formed by melting snow and streams from snow mountains. There is a circular island in the lake, rich in vegetation species, called "plant gene bank" by botanists, and the island has a long history Buddhist temple. The wetland ecosystem, centered on the Bita Sea, is listed as an internationally important wetland. Bita Sea is the most important part of the Pudacuo National Park. A primitive fish living in the lake has been identified by biologists as a living fossil from the fourth-season glacier era, known as the "Bita Heavy-lipped Fish", or "Zhongdian Leaf Fish", because of the two layers of its upper lip. Every May of the lunar calendar is the season of the flowering of azaleas. When the breeze blows over the azaleas, the petals fall on the lake, attracting the fishes to swallow the petals, then the fishes are drunk and float on the water. Thus, drunk fish and azaleas formed a strange landscape. It is said that the old bears in the forest will also take advantage of the moonlight to catch the intoxicated fish. The famous writer Feng Mu has described this scene. From then on, the landscape of the “the azaleas make the fish drunk ” and “old bear catch the fish” in the Bita Sea become famous around the world. The unique water, unique flowers, and unique animals make this unique two scenes happen.
